Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Harvard Square institution Oona's Experienced Clothing has been dressing Greater Boston in the funkiest vintage gear from the 1930s through the 1980s since 1972. Fans of the shop's sister location, Oona's Outpost in Inman Square, as well as the Jamaica Plain spot, Cafe Society, will be sad to hear that the additional stores are closing so the secondhand retailer can focus on e-commerce. Though the communities will lose a gem, the prospect of an old-time purveyor entering the digital age is always exciting, especially for those who prefer shopping from behind a compter screen.
While a Facebook update reveals that their vintage jewels and cowboy boots will be making the journey to Harvard Square, our attention was caught with the announcement of Friday's holiday party. Starting at 7pm, bring yourself in your most festive vintage attire to the shop for a best outfit contest (men's and women's winners each receive a $100 gift certificate), treats, and tunes.
