Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
As 2012 draws to a close, we're surveying our friends in the fashion industry about the year's biggest news stories and most exciting developments. Earlier, we covered some interesting startups, and now, we lament the items that escaped our wardrobe. Readers, let us know what you think in the comments.
The one item that got away in 2012 was [fill in the blank].
Amanda Knorr, Spreedia founder: In a literal sense, one of two tiny rose gold stud earrings I bought from Catbird NYC. It fell somewhere in a car and I did everything short of ripping out the seats to find it, but I only found the back!
Renata Certo-Ware, Scorpion Disco and freelance fashion writer/stylist: There's a Gucci clutch I'm eyeing, from their current collection. I want the light blue one. Hint hint.
Lisa Pierpont, BOLDFACERS founder: I failed to snag a $100 navy ruffle sheath from the Gilt Warehouse Sale. What can I say? I choked.
Liana Krupp, communications consultant and New Brahmin founder: Roland Mouret cropped wool trousers—I should have justified the purchase, I would be living in them right now.
Lani Zervas, Mon Petit Chou Chou blogger: A Balenciaga jacket at TJ Maxx. Yes, TJ Maxx. It still carried a hefty price tag, so I tried the "wait and if it is meant to be, it will be there when I go back" routine. Sadly, when I did go back, someone had snatched it up! Lesson learned.
Lindsey Canant, Junior Copywriter at Joss and Main: A stunning, out of my price range Erte "Nocturne" necklace at M. Flynn. Someone please give it a good home!
