Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Out with the old, in with New Balance's new compound. Born and raised in Boston, New Balance is the only athletic shoe company that hasn't shifted production overseas. About a quarter of the company's sneakers and shoes sold in the US are made here in New England at one of their five factories in Maine and Massachusetts, and the Bay State is about to be home to NB's major new headquarters.

Demolition is already underway, with construction slated to begin later this year on New Brighton Landing, a 14 acre compound that is expected to be completed in 2015. It will include not only office headquarters, but also a sports complex and hotel as well as retail, restaurant and recreational spaces (like a rumored indoor track) to take those new kicks out for a test drive. No ride? No problem! NB is planning on building a commuter rail station on the Framingham-Worcester line by 2014, so you can make a day of visiting the new headquarters to eat, shop, and play—and maybe even drop off your résumé—without gassing up the car.

Hope NB plans to stock up on Windex. Design and construction on New Brighton Landing is helmed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, the Boston-based firm behind local and national projects like Intercontinental Boston, Fan Pier, The Grove shopping center in LA, and Las Vegas City Hall. Expect buildings on the newly expanded headquarters to feature the firm's trademark infinite windows, sleek angles and sexy curves.

If you can't wait til 2015, you can still get your fix with the USA Day Tripper Pack. Available online and in stores this season, the Men's Day Tripper pack includes three classic New Balance silhouettes made in suede and nubuck leather and inspired by cross-country motorcycle jaunts circa 1960.—Renata Certo Ware
