A Wall Street Journal article this past Sunday chronicled the murky space treaded by fashion trucks nationwide—and what captured our attention was a quote from Lauren Shurtleff, a planner with the city of Boston. Though at one point in time City Hall wasn't on board with the fashion truck concept, it seems to have come around:
"We want to foster that rather than turn our backs to it," she said.
The WSJ also notes that Boston views the trucks as business incubators, a movement led by first adopters like The Fashion Truck, Lola's Urban Vintage, and Green Street Vault (the latter of which had a publicized quarrel with the city regarding regulation violations). Evidently, mobile retailers in San Francisco and New York City often suffer the same fate, as outlined in the article. So what's to come? Fortunately the market season springing upon us coaxes these vendors out from their winter hibernation, when business is usually conducted through private events and party visits.
