Spending time in Europe (and more specifically, Spain) will quickly inform any travelers that Desigual is a wildly popular brand across the Atlantic. The Barcelona-based retailer and wholesaler of colorful, scribbled upon goods for men, women, children and the home is projected to bring in sales of $1 billion globally this year—but it wants to capitalize even more on the US market. WWD notes that the stateside business became profitable last year after its 2009 entry, with estimates of $60 million in sales this year.

Though there are no plans to open a freestanding Boston store, our city will be included in Desigual's plan to create "DShops"—stores within stores—at popular Boston wholesalers by late summer. Stay tuned on which store(s) will play host to the company's vibrant apparel. Hopefully the space will be as bizarre as the brand's own brick and mortar boutiques.
