Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Welcome to Racked Boston's Hottest Trainer 2013 competition. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile eight good looking candidates who work at local gyms and studios. Once you get to know everyone, we'll host a bracket-style showdown in which you get to vote for your favorite. Let the games begin!
Anyone who has frequented The Bar Method or the courts of TD Garden will likely recognize this next trainer. Amanda Herman has spent countless hours perfecting her dance technique at the University of Southern California, subsequently moving to Boston for a chance to perform with the Celtics. She quickly pursued an opportunity with The Bar Method and the rest is history. Along with a demanding dance schedule and instructing, Amanda also takes care of her two dogs, named after Harry Potter characters Luna and Fleur.
Amanda's teaching style is fast paced, as she spends a lot of time choreographing and creating a smooth flow for her classes. A favorite in particular is the Level 2 regimen: "I love the camaraderie between our hard core clients waking up early to sneak in a workout on a Saturday morning. I hear all the groans when I say to do something crazy, but I know they love it!" She also reminds that no workout is easy at first, so don't be afraid to ask for help.
