Earlier this week, local sports outfitter City Sports welcomed its eighth store to the Boston market at the former State Street building, 225 Franklin Street, in the Financial District. Per the usual fashion, the opening of this 8000 square foot space will be celebrated tonight with the staple grand opening prize of free shoes for a year and a Nike-led 5k run. So what makes this location unique? The bottom floor of the two-level store is within the bank's original vault, literally. City Sports couldn't remove the 30,000 pound structure so they just built inside of it—with an installation that boasts 2000 pennies signaling "The Vault."
As with most of the company's new stores, this one features a 50 foot track to test over 250 shoe styles and perform gait analysis, along with the women's bra and pant walls and plenty of outwear for the whole family. Some team gear is available for those rushing from work to a Sox game, and eyewear is readily available for biking, skiing, hiking, and even the city sidewalks. Downstairs is also home to a small children's section. Backtracking to the top level, you'll find primarily hard goods (grab water bottles, footballs, and rackets on-the-go) as well as the City Sports private line of activewear.
Stop by after work tonight from 5:30pm to 8pm, and if you're feeling ballsy enough to run in this sweltering humidity, the 5k starts at 6pm.
