All eyes are on Assembly Row in Somerville—a swath of land currently being redeveloped as a mixed-use property touting outlet shopping among other retail, housing, and entertainment amenities. Last summer, Boston Business Journal cited Assembly Row's difficulty in attracting (and signing) retail tenants, but LinkedIn's job page reveals that Saks OFF 5TH is hiring for a Somerville store, presumably within the planned 45 acre development.
Currently, the Saks Fifth Avenue career site lists more than five management opportunities in Somerville for its OFF 5TH off-price branch of the company. Last we saw, Assembly Row was closing in on a deal with it but hadn't confirmed its presence on the lease; however, the fact that the store is hiring is a pretty good indicator Greater Boston will be receiving its first OFF 5TH space.
UPDATE, 3/13/2014: A representative on behalf of Assembly Row has alerted us that Saks OFF 5TH did in fact announce its lease last fall as an anchor retail tenant at Assembly Row. The development will begin opening in May.
