Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
You can smell the grilled meats, taste the beer, and feel the sea salt in the air. It's the week of the Fourth, and if you're not already on vacation, you certainly are mentally. In our newest feature, Dress Code, we ask local boutiques for their advice on dressing the part for upcoming occassions—so when it came time to pull together patriotic looks, we turned to Ball and Buck and Flock for their best American-made buys.
Where: Flock
What: Floral Fan Top, $128, and The Bill Bob Overalls, $172, both made in the USA by Show Me Your MuMu. Accessorized with a Golden Stella scarf, $28.
Why: Manager Alex Smith says, "We love this outfit because it's the perfect mix of sexy vintage funk, with super wide bell bottom overalls and a peek of tan summer skin under creamy lace this outfit is sure to get a ton of compliments. Throw in a killer and super affordable vintage inspired flag scarf and you'll be the coolest girl at the party."
Where: Ball and Buck
What: America Hunter's Shirt, $168; The 6 Point Duck Cotton Short, in Caramel $88; The Angler's Hat in Navy, $38.
Why: Owner Mark Bollman says, "The American Hunter shirt is one of my favorite products this year. It has our famous Hunter shirt design, with red and white stripes on the reinforced shooting shoulder and navy and white stars on the elbows. It's the perfect combination of work and play. Our six point duck shorts are the first shorts to carry the Roger logo. We created them this spring from scratch and couldn't be happier with the fit. Top it off with the premium waxed cotton hat and you've got the game, set, and match."
