Welcome to Racked Boston's search for the city's hottest trainer. Over the coming weeks, we'll profile eight smoking locals—fitness experts who not only look hot in spandex, but can make you look amazing too. Once you've gotten to know everyone, we'll host a March Madness-style showdown in which readers vote for their favorites. Let the games begin!
It was an exercise science class at UMass that sealed Phyl London's career trajectory. "I was hooked on studying physiology, anatomy, and how the body works," says this Connecticut native, who has been inspiring clients ever since with her positivity, patience and loyalty. Today the Healthworks Brookline master trainer and Pilates instructor wins raves for her pragmatic approach to fitness, especially among new mothers looking to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back. "Many TV fitness shows encourage people to workout many hours each day and I think that can discourage people from starting a workout routine," Phyl says. "I focus on building exercise into their lifestyle."
To that end, Phyl recently launched Bodiphy, a movement series that borrows from Pilates, strength training and barre to lengthen and tone in double-quick time. She also produces her own YouTube fitness series offering quick 10-minute workouts that anyone can fit into their daily routines. She's not completely work-minded, though: Phyl still takes time to binge-watch her favorite TV shows and spend time with her pup, Sadie. As one devotee described this Renaissance woman, "When all is said and done, Phyl is physically hot, but she's insanely smart and talented, which makes her a complete and total package!"
