Maddening but true: your eco-friendly cleaning potions aren't as pure as they claim. After suffering an asthma attack while using one of her favorite "green" products, Cape resident Devin Donaldson decided there has to be a simpler way. Thus came The Optimist Co., a line of cleaning elixirs with ingredients so natural, she lists them on the front of the label.

How natural? The all-purpose and glass cleaners take their potency from distilled vinegar and eucalyptus oil, while the laundry detergent employs coconut oil soap flakes (yeah, we kind of want to eat that). And lest you worry: yes, they absolutely work. You can nab the products online or in small grocers around the Cape; Bostonians can also look for The Optimist Co. at the SoWa Open Market on August 24 and September 7.
