Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

You obsess over the Teen Choice Awards outfits, but here's your chance to dissect the fashions of yesteryear. On September 9, the Museum of Fine Arts unveils Hollywood Glamour: Fashion and Jewelry from the Silver Screen, a way-back look at iconic styles from Hollywood's golden age.

Make like the old-time fashion police and critique the gowns and jewelry of Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. Standout pieces include a slinky Betty Grable evening gown, Mae West's silver-leather kicks (above) and wayyyy-over-the-top baubles from Joan Crawford's jewelry drawer (below). Period photographs, film stills and movie clips further transport you back to the silver screen era.
