Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
The first annual Rescue the Runway is what happens when the fashion industry teams up with the fuzzy industry. Hosted by animal welfare group Audrey's Rescue Angels and Durty Harry's Doggie Boutique & Spa, the runway show features twenty Boston notables strutting the catwalk with rescue dogs.
Unlike Fashion Week, where the clothing doesn't appear on racks for another six months, there's an element of instant gratification here: All of the dogs are up for adoption. And there's an element of charity, too: 100% of profits from the event will benefit PAWS New England, Last Hope K9 Rescue, Lucky Lab Rescue, and the MSPCA.
It all goes down on Sunday, August 17th at the Colonnade Hotel, with general admission going live at 6pm. Celebrity models-slash-dogwalkers include news anchors Susan Wornick and Janet Wu, Celtics sideline reporter Abby Chin, Mike Napoli of the Boston Red Socks, and members of the Boston police force.
