Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Boston's holy day of obligation is quickly approaching, and it's coming in neon sneakers. That's right—Marathon Monday is here and although we'll be leaving the running to the professionals, we're championing a marathon of other sorts. We've mapped out a guide to the must-stop spots along the marathon route with stores that stock everything from pendants to pumice stones. While the top runners will be clocking in 5-minute miles, we recommend a more leisurely pace—these stores have goods that you won't want to miss.—Justin Reis

As the official award suppliers of the Boston Marathon, we suggest drooling over the Long's estate collection which features out of this world pieces from the likes of Cartier and Tiffany. In other words—our kind of gold medal.

Crossing Main

This past winter, suburbanites rejoiced when this Linden Square spot opened its doors. Housing a curated selection of goods from Brahmin favorites like DVF to LA staples such as Gold Hawk, the store offers a mix of contemporary cool—an oasis in a land where Tory Burch flats reign supreme.

National Jean Company

Boston might have lingering memories of NJC’s Newbury opening just over a year ago, but the brand’s Newton outpost is still a favorite. Despite stocking every style of jean imaginable, their ready to wear options from brands like Joie and Equipment are the reasons we keep coming back.

Tess & Carlos

Innovation isn’t typically a word used to describe Newton, but that’s exactly what is offered at Tess & Carlos. Up-and-coming designers meet a European sensibility in this minimalistic boutique. Stand out pieces take the form of items exclusive to the area from designers like Hache and Ter et Bantine.

Portobello Road

The reinvigoration of Chestnut Hill can only mean good things for this eclectic boutique. With everything from Brazilian buys to locally produced wares, Portobello Road is a refreshing middle mark for any shopping marathon. Not to miss: signature otherworldly floral arrangements for spring.
Bostonians get an aromatic adventure at this Brookline shop with handmade scrubs, soaps, and washes all exported from Colorado. Another treat? For Marathon Monday the store is offering a free pumice stone with any foot product purchase, as well as 25% off all bath salts (the good kind).

Mint Julep

Stocked with pieces from brands like Anna Sui, Nanette Lepore, and Shoshanna, Mint Julep is just as sweet as its name suggests. A selection as varied as the price points, Mint Julep is a no brainer for easy Spring pieces that are perfect for a day in the Public Garden or a quick trip to the Islands.
As the finish line approaches, looks take high priority. Mizu brings Boston some of the greatest hair care with everything from cut and colors to Bio Ionic Japanese Retexturizing. Just last month, the salon added manicures to its already impressive service list.
