Top Ten Places to Find Tights in Boston Before the Big Chill

View as Map

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

R.I.P. warm weather. Might as well stock our tights reserve now, because who wants to scramble for the last pair of black tights at H&M when you need them immediately and your other ones ripped (and not in the cool, destroyed chic way). Don't fall victim to the leggings and boots rut—tights let you rock those shorter hemlines all winter long with every color under the rainbow, tantalizing textures, and quirky prints.

We've got a whole slew of places beyond the obvious department stores to find legwear, most of which lie in a wallet-happy price range. On that note, who misses Filene's Basement? Its intimates and legwear sections were a treasure trove.

Legs still cold? Check out our tights shopping guides from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and LA, not to mention Racked National's guide to warm legwear online.

There's always something interesting on the legwear wall at Marshalls. And with most items running below $15, we find it hard to leave empty-handed.

That rainbow of hues were mentioned above? This is where you find it, in finishes ranging from sheer to opaque, and sparkly to patterns and mesh. FYI: this location sells kids clothing and accessories.

Madewell

Madewell is a great stop for cute and clean tights. Don't be surprised if the boots entice you too. And the flirty dresses. You'll walk out looking like Alexa Chung. Who doesn't want that?

T.J. Maxx

Like Marshalls, we've never met a T.J. Maxx we didn't like when it comes to random accessories. Yes, the tights selection can be haphazard, but the low prices let you try out something new. Plus it's close to the universities.
Clearly, Target leads the pack when it comes to fashion-forward big box stores. They have legwear for the whole family in a slew of styles. Cereal, check. Target x NM gifts, check. Tights, done.

Forty Winks has the sexy kind of tights—you know, the ones that go with your garters and lovely little intimates. But they also stock Spanx, so rest easy that you'll look good when your clothes are on and off.

Urban Outfitters

Most Urban Outfitters stock the same trendy tights, but stop by this location to escape the Newbury Street crowds. Though, like everywhere else in Boston, you might have to deal with a heavy tourist load on weekends. Godspeed.

Anthropologie

We've always found a solid selection of Hue tights at Anthro, but a recent inventory check turns up some quirky patterns and plenty of polka dots. Lots of affordable statement pieces here.
